Great Taste in Cafes

0saves

After many years of working an office job, I was finally able to move out of the urban city and bought a stunning house in a lone lot on the coast. Unluckily I was only 35, not exactly the right age to step down yet. However I had always hoped to own and run my own cafe. Obviously I knew it might be quite hard work, but if I loved it and it was rewarding, then why not? So started my search for cafes I could rent.

Along our strip of coast there were a lot of attractive cafes and dining options with alfresco dining. A little shop overlooking the ocean would be nice. Serving coffee and lunch to all those passing through, making milk shakes for the children on the way back from college But I felt just like it just was not me. As I sat drinking a latte, hearing the vehicles whiz past on the great ocean road, I made my call.

My hubby was very excited with the idea, as it meant I’d spend less of my savings that I would have spent had I purchased a retail store. My sister told me it is a fantastic opportunity and I was certain to make a good living. My number one friend asked that I was the very first stop for breakfast each morning. It started to seem like my dream of a mobile coffee van was a winner.

It was more than only a coffee shop, it was a cafe on wheels. I prepared a large selection of food each night to go out on the run the subsequent morning. From tantalizing cakes to Greek salad, sandwiches and snacks for the kids, I had something to keep all ages happy. With a month of expert barista lessons under my belt, I was making delicious coffee and brewing tea to perfection.

I did a daily run, frequenting areas where outside cafe services were lacking, like tiny beaches and parks. In time I had a listing of houses and firms added to my daily run. Whether it was folk in remote areas dying for a good cup of coffee or busy retail workers who couldn’t travel far for lunch, the business just kept coming. After five years, business is flourishing and I could not be happier!

To get a mobile coffee van that services your local area, head to dLook today.

BREAKFAST

1/2 c all bran
3/4 c organic milk
2 T ovaltine (40 cal)
1 c coffee with 1 T creamer (30)

LUNCH

1 prepared package of carrots and lite dip (80 cal)
1 peach
1 container lite yogurt

SNACK

veggies and homemade dill dip with fat free sour cream
1/3 c zuchinni casserole
30 small chocolate chips (70 calories)

That's all I've had so far today. The chocolate chips are just for my daily one serving of junk food so I don't feel deprived.

Yeah. but I think you should eat less, because a Yogurt and a Peach AND Carrots is a little much, however it is healthy and I'm not a doctor so I may not be correct if it's too much, just my thoughts, good job though :)

hmmm… its a bit small. unless your trying to lose weight. but it doesnt sound like you've even eaten 1000 kcal there so its still a bit low…

but then again. if you are trying to lose weight you'll lose like 2 lbs a week doing this!

It's a good amount. You could probably put more grains in there. It's nice to know that you are not a meat lover, not caring if animals are killed.

As you starve yourself (limit calories greatly) you put your body into a defensive action of lowering your metabolism. when your body does this, it burns less and less fat – as when it is in starvation mode. Hence, you burn less fat and you also burn your muscle which is not good. it is recommended that you know your body weight and height, and use a calorie calculator (they are on the web) and figure out what your body needs to hold its own weight wise in calories per day. once you know this, you can reduce your daily calories, combined with the amount of exercise you perform each day, and pursue a dietary intake for loose approx. 1-2.5 lbs a week – which is slow, yes, but history/stats have shown that people will keep this amount off as opposed to unreasonable diets that they will not keep up with in a lifestyle change for the rest of their life. so, if you need, say 1550 calories a day to maintain your weight, you might want to drop to 1250 calories a day plus add some exercise that would burn an additional 250 calories a day and loose about 2 lbs a week. If you add the appropriate cardio and weight-tone exercises daily, you will also add more muscle which will tone you up (take off inches) more quickly. it is suggested that one follow a high protein/low carb diet that includes the appropriate amount of protein, fruits/veggies/dairy and carbs. these too can be found on the web or from you doctor. plus, you will have great skin and skin tone and nice shiny hair as well!

Any dietitians out there that can tell me if this is a healthy meal plan?

Breakfast I ate cereal, organic skim milk, 2 cups of coffee with about an ounce of half and half. I counted calories to be 235.

Lunch I had a bag of mixed greens (salad) topped with a serving of black beans, 1 can of tuna, 2 tbs of balsamic vinegar, and a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil came out to be 244.5 calories.

Snack
Gala apple at 80 Calories

Dinner
1 serving of brown rice topped with cauliflower and 1/3rd cup of mozzarella cheese melted on top. Came to about 280 calories

Snack
1 Mango

I know this only comes out to about 1000 calories and you can say its not a healthy amount to have and I should have more but I want to know if there are certain foods I should have less of in this diet and certain foods in this diet I should have more of. Like should I have less starches and more veggies and fruits or do I need more proteins etc to lose about 3lbs a week with moderate exercise 2-3 times per week. also do you recommend any daily vitamins to supply nutrients that a diet this low in calories doesn't supply? thanks.

i would go with whole milk. more nutrition. any multi will do. make sure it has iron. a calcium citrate with vitamin D would be good for calcium. good luck.

Not bad, but as you say this is a pretty small amount of calories.

For breakfast, forget the skim milk. in nature, milk comes with fat – so eat full fat milk as nature intended! most of the nutrients in milk are fat soluble, meaning they need to be in the presence of fat to be absorbed. your dinner looks to be missing some protein. Try eggs or meat, of course preferably organic. Try combining some nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts) with your fruits at snack time. this will increase calories and give you the healthy fats you need.

Whole foods are always preferable to supplements. If you live in a northern climate you'll definitely want to add some sort of fish oil or cold liver oil to supplements the lack of Vitamin D that occurs in the winter time. also a greens supplement is good.

To lose weight and keep it off, it is healthy to lose no more than 2 lbs per week. I would also add more calories, perhaps through more breads/starches and more veggies. also, more fruits would be good.

I am losing between 1-2 pounds per week eating between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. I believe anything below 1200 Calories per day is too low. also, you may have to increase that range, because of the moderate exercise. you don't want your body to go into starvation mode, because you aren't consuming enough calories.

Any dietitians out there that can tell me if this is a healthy meal plan?

Diet question-
Would you loose or gain weight in one day from this…
Breakfast – 1 cup Coffee no sugar
Lunch- juice box organic 40 calorie
Dinner – one bag of popcorn… I didn’t add extra butter but it was buttered popcorn :(
Took 4 hydroxycut pills.. 2 in am 2 before dinner…

Will I have gained weight from the popcorn? I tried to not eat it but got tempted… If it will add weight should I take a laxative? or will the hydroxycut help?

Do you understand how people can not eat vegetables?

0saves

I eat vegetables at every single meal — yes even breakfast. Even if I’m having something like oatmeal I NEED to have a green smoothie/juice on the side or I just don’t feel right. Lunch and dinner I load up like there’s no freaking tomorrow. The other day I was making dinner and I realized I forgot a vegetable and I nearly flipped out. Thankfully I had some frozen organic kale I quickly sauteed with garlic. I ate the entire package because I was so thankful I had something green.
I just don’t feel right if my body isn’t digesting some green blog of soluble fiber. You could compare it to someone who is addicted to coffee and gets jittery and lethargic without their java.

Does anyone here go days without eating vegetables? How do you survive?

How to fix a diet like this?

0saves

So, I’ve recently become vegetarian (hoping to become vegan soon), and I was wondering how I could fix my diet:

Breakfast: Coffee (and sometimes a vegan cereal) (Nature’s Path Organic Hemp Plus Granola)
Lunch: Whatever we have in the caf, which is usually some kind of pasta or something, chips, a cookie and water.
Snack: coffee and something sweet
Dinner: some veggie and rice thing.
Also, I’m very picky.

So far YTD I've spent over 10% of my disposable income on fast food, is that an epic fail or what?

0saves

Just got done with my October spreadsheet, fast food is officially over 10% while "groceries" comes in at a modest 7.6%. The ff fund also tracks alcohol, but I only usually drink maybe once a week anyway so the actual number isn’t significant.

The problem for me is convenience, during work days it’s usually common to get at least one thing (coffee, lunch, snack, gas station drink) while out. Maybe it’s time to stick with the ugly, brown and gray packed lunches again.

One of my goals in the next 2 years is to save as much as humanly possible for a down payment on a house. I track every penny now and it’s the kind of tracking that made me pay back a K student loan without a dime in interest. What’s the best way to wean yourself off of food corporations that exploit the "drive-thu"? I have extremely fast metabolism so I can easily eat 2.5k calories a day and never see a pound unfortunately. I buy mostly organic at the store so that’s why there’s a high percentage of the cost as well. I fear that if I eat 100% grocery, the savings isn’t going to lower by much, however I may be eating more healthy.
