Vietnam’s Coffee Trades at London Prices on Demand, Volcafe Says
November 25, 2011, 10:57 AM EST
Nov. 25 (Bloomberg) — Coffee beans in Vietnam, the largest grower of the robusta variety, are trading at the same price as in London, erasing a discount last week, said Volcafe, the coffee unit of trader ED&F Man Holdings Ltd.
Vietnamese sellers were demanding the same prices as on the NYSE Liffe exchange in London this week to ship coffee in December and January, data from the Winterthur, Switzerland- based trader show. That compares with a discount of of $20 a metric ton the previous week, the trader said today in an e- mailed report. Vietnam’s 2011-12 marketing season, which started last month, ends in September.
Demand for nearby shipments is “good,” Volcafe said in the report. Buyers who are short, or betting on lower prices, are “forced to pay up” and those who bet that the discount would widen “are running out of time,” Volcafe said.
Coffee exports from Vietnam may have fallen 28 percent this month as traders waited for the harvest to gather pace before signing contracts. Shipments may total 50,000 tons in November, compared with 69,000 tons a year earlier, preliminary data from the General Statistics Office yesterday showed.
Exports from the Southeast Asian nation may have climbed 56 percent from the previous month, according to the data. the nation’s shipments totaled 32,000 tons last month.
“the internal coffee flow is increasing in volume but the pipeline is pretty empty,” Volcafe said. “Quality and yields look promising and are expected to improve day by day.”
Indonesian Flowering
the crop in Indonesia, the third largest robusta producer, has had its first flowering in some areas, according to the trader. the 2012-13 crop there will start in April.
“with good weather the hopes are high that the crop will recover from this year’s disaster,” Volcafe said.
Coffee output in Indonesia fell to 7.9 million bags in the 2011-12 season started in April, down from 9.3 million bags in 2010-11, due to heavy rains, data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture show.

How to make? – Yahoo! Answers
How do i make a good cup of coffee.Never have been able to.I
now use organic skimmed milk and it is a little better.but i'm sick of having to drink it from cafe's to taste it.I need my coffee.
For a start, get shot of the rubbish skimmed milk ! ! !
I can't stand trying a new brand of coffee and it is earthy tasting and smelling.
I use Folgers Breakfast blend and a percolator. if I am making 6 cups of coffee I use 5 tablespoons of coffee.
I also enjoy Dunkin Donuts coffee, mmmmmm!!
Good Luck it is really just trying different blends until you find the one that your buds love. Happy drinking!
*If u like yr coffee sweet with cream/milk…
as i do, then u prepare a cup of milk from yr organic milk powd. and add the amount of sugar u need —- usually 1tsp. & disslove.
Next, add 1-2 tsp of instant coffee powd. —
nestle` or mrf — mix well !!!!!!!!!
Hey presto !!! yr coffee is ready to drink.
either hot or cold —- as u like it !!!!!
Adjust your coffee measure until you get the flavor you'd like.
Then write it down, (because I don't make coffee at home very often) and I like a rich roast.
Also purchase a good brand of coffee. I use a drip coffee maker. just an inexpensive one does the job.
Well i just use one of those aluminium expresso makers (£5?), the ones w an hourglass shape. Those pack a punch. Or you can add some hot water to your expresso and get an "americano" which is not so violent and last longer

Vietnam coffee supply may tighten after farmers sell 90 pct of crop
Coffee supplies from Vietnam, the largest robusta grower, may tighten before the next harvest starts in October after surging prices spurred farmers to sell 90 percent of the current crop.Farmers hold 113,000 metric tons of the 2010-2011 crop, according to the median estimate of a Bloomberg survey of 12 exporters, traders and growers. That compares with about 200,000 tons this time last year. the unsold coffee is held by the wealthiest growers, who can afford to retain stocks hoping prices will rise further, said Nguyen Van An, general director of Thai Hoa Production & Trading Corp., the country’s third- biggest exporter.
Tighter supplies may extend a rally in prices, raising costs for Nestle SA and Kraft Foods inc., the two biggest coffee buyers, which use robusta beans to make instant drinks. Robusta futures in London have jumped 91 percent in the past year, climbing to a three-year high of $2,672 a ton on March 18, as adverse weather threatened crops in Vietnam and Colombia, prompting Kraft to raise the cost of many of its products.
“We could end up with a very low carry-over at the start of the new crop in October, provide the selling policy is maintained at the same pace,” Herve Touraine, executive director of Hong Kong-based trading company SW Commodities Ltd., said in an e-mailed report yesterday. “This will provide for some tightening in the robusta market, particularly in the context of rising demand pressures.”
Rallying prices
Rallying prices prompted Vietnamese farmers to boost sales in the first few months of this year, Luong Van Tu, chairman of the Vietnam Coffee & Cocoa Association, said last month.
Shipments in the first four months of 2011 jumped about 37 percent to 650,000 tons, according to preliminary data from the General Statistics Office in Hanoi published April 27. Exports in the first six months of the 2010-2011 crop year started October expanded 12 percent to 8.6 million bags, according to the International Coffee Organization.
Coffee prices in Dak Lak, Vietnam’s main growing region, rose to 50,300 dong ($2.43) a kilo today, the highest since at least 2006, according to data from the Dak Lak Trade and Tourism Center compiled by Bloomberg.
Accelerated sales in the first three months of this year may mean exports decline in the second quarter, Tu said on April 27.
Vietnam will produce 18.5 million bags in the current crop year, the International Coffee Organization estimates. A bag weighs about 132 pounds, or 60 kilograms.
Vietnam’s coffee farmers typically begin harvesting cherries in October. Most output is exported, with the U.S. and Germany the biggest markets in 2010, according to the General Statistics Office.
Robusta inventories in European warehouses monitored by NYSE Liffe expanded 35 percent in the past two months, exchange data showed may 19.

How to Roast Coffee?
Is it possible to roast coffee in green bean form at home on the cooker, ie without a special coffee roasting machine. Thanks
You can also roast the beans with an electric heat gun (super high heat hand-help blow dryer). Do this outside on an old BBQ grill. Use a metal bowl & put your raw beans in it & set it on your grill & proceed to cook them with your heat gun. Just put the gun directly into the beans from the top & keep it moving. stop when they are dark brown! You could do this indoors, but your whole house will smell like the roasted beans & your smoke alarm could go off! It should take you about 20 minutes.

Where does Dunkin donuts get there coffee beans?
Which country do the coffee beans come from that D&D uses? I wonder if it is thru "fair trade" agreement, or do they purchase the cheapest way possible and rip off the farmers that are already struggling??? If u don't know the answer, what is ur opinion?

What is the best brand of coffee that I can serve in my cake shop?
Im opening up a cake shop next month and i am looking for a coffee supplier. We werent intending on selling coffee but now we are. We just purchased commercial espresso and coffee machines. and we have commercial blenders. Does anyone have any good ideas about a supplier because all i ever drink is starbucks or our local coffee here in KY.
If you're doing espresso and don't have a grinder, try looking for the vacuum sealed types of espresso grind coffees from Italy. They'll have a lot of brands at most Italian stores. if you do have a grinder, check the same stored for whole beans as the flavours are best when the beans are freshly ground. You can then sample until you find a brand you like and ask the store who their distributor is.
well you could make your own kind & make it your own brand. just have flavors like mocha and latte or try new flavors. we have a gas station here called sheetz and they make their own coffee and it is pretty good. people will buy cheaper coffee if its just as good.
Dunkin' Donuts coffee is the best, but that probably doesn't help. whatever Panera Bread Company does is a good idea. I drink that all day.
sorry i gave more my opinion on other companies
nescafe

Mmm – sounds good! I hope you plan to have Bisque on your menu. That, and Vichyssoise! YUM! Good luck! I hope your restaurtant does well!
There is a cafe with a similar concept I know of in Vancouver, Canada called Cafe Crepe (if I'm not mistaken) that does very well — I know of several locations within Downtown Vancouver alone. They don't serve soups, but do have savory and sweet crepes that are delicious. Sounds like a great business idea! Good luck.

Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, myth or hype ?
During a study of viable world produce I heard the other day that during the process of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee they used animals. is there any truth in this & to what extent, and is the limited cultivation of this exquisite coffee the reason for such high prices and low consumption ? I am doing a research on emerging markets ( for school projects ) and ones that have produce to offer the world but for whatever reasons the market needs diversity…
Many thanks
