Learn More About Global Village

The term “global village” is actually overused, but not, I think, without reason. Technological improvements truly have shrunk the planet, and it is no longer uncommon to find citizens of one country living and working in another, usually literally on the other side on the planet, far away from the conveniences of the known…no Cadbury’s or Earl Grey to be discovered for hundreds of miles!

Transportation is more comfortable, and as the years and technology have developed, the entire thought of “borders” has increasingly become more a convenience compared to a difficulty to trade, or to individuals literally moving around the globe chasing financial or various other hobbies. Nowadays, the notion of a “global citizen” is becoming more and more well known, and if the long-term trend continues, then the entire idea of the “nation” may become an useless construct.

Naturally, that day is probably still quite a long time off, but even now, one may see how such a thing might appear. We indeed are becoming a global village, and while that may make some people uneasy (and totally terrify some other people), overall, my feeling of it is that this is a wonderful thing.

One thing remains true however. No matter who you are, or where you’re from, or how much time you’ve been away, sooner or later, nearly everybody finds themselves longing for a taste of home. You probably had a favorite blend of tea you relished when you lived in your home country (Earl Grey, anybody?). Or a favorite brand of snacks that your new home actually doesn’t carry (or even know that it is available). Nostalgia could be a strong force, and when it hits, it’s great to make out that modern technology can assist you in satisfying those cravings.

There are any number of web sites out there that cater to the needs and desires of specific regions, and these websites are full of country (or region) certain goodies which will provide you with just simply the taste of home you’re looking for. So if, as an example, you’re a British ExPat living in certain far flung locale, and you suddenly find yourself longing for a steaming cup of Earl Grey tea, have no fear! A source is just a few mouse clicks away, and it can be provided right to your front door, regardless of where in the world you decide to live.
